ANU Delegation meets Senator Bob Brown

The ANU Student Delegation to Rio+20 had the opportunity to meet Senator Bob Brown, former leader of the Australian Greens, at the PARSA Leadership Forum at ANU on Thursday 24 May.

The delegation chatted informally to Senator Brown about their activities and thoughts on sustainable development and the Australian Government's focus on "mining for sustainable development".

Senator Bob Brown emphasised in his speech that "optimism is a driving force for getting things done" and urged young leaders to have a vision for the future.

ANU Vice Chancellor Ian Young, also speaking to students at the Leadership Forum, said that "consensus was a weak substitute for decision making" in that it means you almost always get a weak outcome. This comment particularly resonated with the ANU Rio+20 delegation as they think about the potential outcome at Rio+20.
